{"id":1,"date":"2013-10-09T12:28:15","date_gmt":"2013-10-09T12:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.preconference14.rbms.info\/?p=1"},"modified":"2014-02-10T13:14:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-10T13:14:53","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.preconference14.rbms.info\/?p=1","title":{"rendered":"Retrofit Fun Facts Updated Regularly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Notice the Retrofit Fun Fact under the banner?<\/p>\n<p>As we ready ourselves for the 2014 RBMS Preconference, we hope you will enjoy visiting and re-visiting the Preconference website to review some of the titles of talks\/presentations\/plenaries\/&amp;c. from our colleagues of yore and how these topics are akin to the kinds of challenges\/opportunities we face.<\/p>\n<p>These facts are drawn from the wonderful RBMS keepsake created five years ago for our <a href=\"http:\/\/rbms.info\/publications\/keepsake\/keepsake.pdf\">semicentennial.<\/a> It was compiled, edited, and with an introduction by R. Arvid Nelsen, with the Assistance of Terry Belanger.<\/p>\n<p>Fun Fact #1 &#8220;Collecting Scientific Literature&#8221; &#8212; 1960 one-day RBMS meeting. The meeting was officially called, &#8220;A One-Day Program Rather Than A Formal Conference&#8221;, and it was held in Montreal at McGill University Libraries.<\/p>\n<p>Fun Fact #2 &#8220;Basic Care of Rare Books and Manuscripts&#8221; &#8212; the 1961 committee devoted its entire conference to exploring: rules, regulations, use, marking, shelving, maintenance, repair, rebinding, and treatment with regard to our treasures and how we care for them. Any of these sound familiar?<\/p>\n<p>Fun Fact #3 &#8220;The Third Rare Book Conference: Book Illustration&#8221; &#8212; the 1962 RBMS conference was held in sunny Coral Gables,\u00a0 Florida, at the University of Miami, where\u00a0 illustrations took center stage.<\/p>\n<p>Fun Fact #3 The &#8220;Western Americana Institute&#8221; &#8212; the 1963 RBMS meeting was held in Chicago, Illinois. It was co-sponsored by the History Section, Reference Services Division of ALA.<\/p>\n<p>Fun Fact #4 Held at the University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS) and Linda Hall Library (Kansas City, MO), topics for the 1964 RBMS Preconference \u00a0included Linnaeus, strawberries&#8217; scientific history, Darwin, Japanese botany, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for more fun facts!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Notice the Retrofit Fun Fact under the banner?
